High Risk Concerns

If you feel that yourself or someone you know is in imminent danger of either hurting themselves or another:

-Contact emergency services on 999;

-Visit your local A&E Department to be assessed by appropriate professionals;

-Call Samaritans for free on 116 123 (24 hours a day, 365 days a year). You don't have to be suicidal to speak to them. (All age)

- Text "SHOUT" to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line, or text "YM" if you're under 19

- If you're under 19, you can also call 0800 1111 to talk to Childline. The number will not appear on your phone bill. 

-If you've already been given a Crisis Line number from a health professional, call it.

-Contact support services that are already be involved

- Find a local NHS urgent mental health helpline in England 

-Talk to someone you feel comfortable with and trust about how you are feeling so they can help direct you to get the right help;

-Call the crisis team in your County e.g. (see below) 

Essex

  • Urgent and 24-hour contact information Protection for Children and Adults - 0345 606 1212 (Where a child is at immediate risk of significant harm, call the Children and Families Hub on 0345 603 7627 and ask for the 'Priority Line' or call the Police on 999. (Out of Hours: [Mon-Thurs 5:00pm-9am. Fri & Bank Holidays 4:30pm-9am 0345 606 1212 or Email: Emergency.DutyTeamOutOfHours@essex.gov.uk). The Children and Families Hub also offers a consultation line for professionals providing advice and guidance. This can be accessed by calling 0345 603 7627 and asking for the 'Consultation Line'.

Hertfordshire

  • Hertfordshire NightLight Mental Health Crisis Service:  01923 256391

  • Call our Single Point of Access (SPA) for child / young person Tel: 0300 777 0707 from 8am - 7pm  Email: hpft.spa@nhs.net (telephonic triage -  Referrals can be made through GPs and other health professionals or through self or carer referrals).

  • Alternatively, call our Out of Hours Helpline Tel: 01438 843322

  • 0300 123 4043 – call us any time if you're a child / young person being abused or adult who is concerned about a child/young person.

  • Adults - If you or someone you know is being abused or neglected, call us on 0300 123 4042 (open 24 hours a day). 

  • For adults receiving mental health services, contact Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust on 0300 777 0707. 

Moderate Risk Concerns

-Call NHS 111 (NHS service available 24 hours a day);

- Minds: Coping through a crisis advice – what can I do to help myself 

-Book an emergency GP appointment: They should be able to offer you an appointment in a crisis with the first available doctor;

-Make a referral to an NHS Mental Health Team: 

-Text the YoungMinds Crisis Messenger, for free 24/7 support across the UK if you are experiencing a mental health crisis. If you need urgent help text YM to 85258. All texts are answered by trained volunteers, with support from experienced clinical supervisors. (Texts are free from EE, O2, Vodafone, 3, Virgin Mobile, BT Mobile, GiffGaff, Tesco Mobile and Telecom Plus.)

The crisis messenger service could help with urgent issues such as:

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Abuse or assault

  • Self-harm

  • Bullying

  • Relationship breakdown

You can text us free and anonymously – although if the volunteer believes you are at immediate risk of harm, they may share your details with people who can provide support.

Essex
